Position Overview
Sound Opinions Intern will work closely with producers and hosts to assist in the production of the shows weekly podcast edition and bonus episodes.  Each week on the show, nationally respected rock critics Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis interview artists and authors, talk about pop culture and music industry news, review new record releases and give trends a historical context. Primary Responsibilities
•     Develop an understanding of audio protocols for award-winning show
•     Recognize and execute quality sound production in the show format 
•     Identify, modify and catalog show archives
Qualifications
Student worker must: 

  • be able to work independently

  • have basic understanding non-linear digital editing (ProTools, Audition, etc.)

  • show success at managing projects from inception to completion

  • be able to work remotely on your own personal computer and in studio on the DAWS system set up.

 No heavy lifting required. May spend hours at a time in front of a computer screen editing or programming content.

Student Production Director (Closes 1/2/25)

Position Overview
Come work with Columbia College Chicago's student-run radio station, WCRX as the Student Production Director. They will be responsible for coordination of imaging and production schedule at the student-run station, WCRXFM.

Position works closely with Music Director and Program Directors to create recorded messaging for creating audio content promoting programming airing at the station. Individual works with Program Director in the coordinating of airing of national and locally produced content on the radio station. The student will work with student organizations and individuals to create audio content to air. And when necessary, record Public Service Announcements for the station, as needed.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Produce messaging (promos and imaging) about station's programming schedule 

  • Write and voice content as needed for radio station.

  • Record and edit audio, using non-linear applications to create local programming and podcasts.

  • Work with student contributors to create content to air at the station.

  • Assist Station Manager with public file maintenance

Qualifications
Student interested in learning radio industry specific software to program the various elements. Student with working experience organizing multiply tasks or projects at once. Student wanting to work independently to share creative content to the Columbia and greater Chicago communities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • have experience Broadcast style writing

  • have proficiency with non-linear digital audio editing (ProTools, Audition, etc.)

Public Affairs Director

WCRX Student Public Affairs Director (Closes 12/20/24)

Position Overview
The WCRX Student Public Affairs Director is responsible for coordinating all non-music content aired on the station. This role involves overseeing series production, managing public affairs programming, curating live and recorded Public Service Announcements (PSAs), and assisting the Music Director in generating the FCC-required quarterly reports. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review and approve recorded PSAs to ensure they meet station quality and sound standards.

  • Write live PSA copy for on-air talent.

  • Produce, update, and record the station’s weekly job line.

  • Produce and record PSAs and other station announcements as needed.

  • Organize and rotate all live and recorded PSAs in the Music Management and Scheduling system as directed by the Station Director.

  • Assist the Station Director with maintaining the public file.

  • Edit interviews and produce finalized audio for the station’s weekend public affairs programming.

  • Coordinate and upload programs for syndication.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a basic understanding of FCC regulations and radio broadcasting, strong audio production and copywriting skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
