S3E16: Acting

This week’s episode of Stuck in Your Stereo is packed with variety! Sabrina and Gavin talk to Mark about how his passion for video games developed. Tamara, Houston, and Lauren sit down with Assil and Zaina to hear about the two’s experiences in the pre-dental career route. And Priscilla and Gio learn about living with MALS from visual artist Sophia Haslett.

Nikhil and Houston talk with Arsha about being a wing-sauce entrepreneur. Gavin, Sabrina, and Nikhil interview Mac Blackout about his graffiti art, murals, paintings, and music. And Lauren, Tamara, and Houston speak with Phillip about photography as well as thrifting!

We’re getting down to business in this episode with interviews all about entrepreneurship! Sabrina and Daniel talk to David about founding his marketing agency, Content Workshop. Lauren and Tamara speak with Artur who is bringing Ukrainian-style coffee to the city with his company Soloway. And Taylor and Stephanie talk to Camila about The Blk Room, a creative space for BIPOC in Chicago. 

S3E10: Music Talk #3

It’s time for our favorite topic once again; music! Speaking with Shawn and Jordan, Quinn shares experiences from his time as a throwback DJ on WCRX, Cameron talks with Nikhil, Daniel, and Ivan about how faith motivates him as a hip hop artist, and Chicago-based artist Benny Jones calls in the discuss adopting music at a young age and holding onto that passion.  

S3E9: History, Voice Acting, and Visual Art

It’s another blend of topics on today’s show! Jay, Stephanie, and Ivan talk with Mason about his experience studying history, Niko sits down with Gavin, Houston, and Sabrina and goes into detail on the best parts of being a professional voice actor, and after that, Shawn and Jordan talk to Harper who shares some thoughts on studying art at SCAD!

And Jay’s mom calls in to speak with Jay and Sabrina about her management position at Medicare aberrations.

This episode is about all things gaming! Jay goes 1v1 with Will talking about becoming an E-sports competitor. Shawn and Jordan speak with Gabrielle and learn about life as an E-sports event coordinator. And Gavin and Sabrina discuss video games as an escape with gaming enthusiast Tyrese. 

S3E5: Hip Hop, Art & Design, and Photography

Today’s episode features an eclectic assortment of talented guests! Daniel, Tamara, and Lauren talk with Uri about finding a unique lane in the crowded world of hip hop. Shawn, Sabrina, and Jordan interview Jalen about art and design. And last, but not least, Priscilla, Gio, and August speak with Oluwatobi (Tobi) Ajibade about finding a passion for photography and visual storytelling as an adult.

In the season three premiere of the popular student series Stuck in your Stereo, we’re talking coffee preferences, the power of supportive family members, cooking, entrepreneurship, and so much more! Stephanie, Lauren, and Tamara interview Ana about transitioning from Mexico to the U.S.. Shawn and Jordan sit down with Earriana to discuss finding success while coming from a small town. Gio, Priscilla and Houston sit down with Joanna to talk about her small business and charity work. 

S2E18: Chemistry, Animation, and the Queer DJ Scene

In our first segment today, Scott sits down with product development chemist Mira Stevens to learn about the work of creating home cleaning products. Mira shares her knowledge on ‘scale up’, developing products from scratch, and marketing tricks in the home cleaning industry.

Quinn chats with his friend Mason (MasonJamez on YouTube), an animator! Mason talks about the Lego stop-motion creators that got him excited about animation. He goes into the workflow of animation and the difficulties of making any longer piece of work in the medium.

Stick around for our conversation with house music DJ Jesse Mercado. We hear about Jesse’s origin in the queer DJ scene dating back to 2007. Jesse gives insight to the changes in the scene over the years including the shifts in diversity amongst Chicago DJ’s and shares some of the best clubs in the city for house music.

S2E9: Film, AustinTalks, and DJ'ing

We kick off this episode with a conversation with Richard Montiel, a hip hop artist. Richard speaks about some of the past and current artists that have influenced his style, the possibilities of branching out beyond rap music, and the evolution of hip hop.

Our second segment features Braeden Long, a visual artist and photography major at Columbia College Chicago. We discuss Braeden’s influences in photo and film, capturing the isolated experience of starting college during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the process of film photography as well as printmaking.

Stick around for our conversation with Adjunct English professor at Columbia College Chicago, Christopher Bower. Chris talks about his involvement with The Curious Theatre Branch, where writers respond to plays with their own original work.

S2E5: Blogs, Selling Salads, and Acting

Today’s first guest is Proxoxie, a DJ, producer, radio host, and blogger. We talk to her about all of these topics and more, including capturing awkward expressions in photos, taking initiative to finish projects, being a woman in the male-dominated audio industry, and growing up amongst a diverse population in Dearborn, Michigan. Next, we speak with actor and model Madelynn Grace Wierda. Madelynn shares the highs and lows of her on-set experiences, from modeling for a Nike commercial in Atlanta to raising script concerns on an unorganized production. We also discuss how Madelynn recharges with food and music in her downtime.

S2E6: Film Production, Photojournalism, and Weddings

Our first guest on this episode is Simone Heim who studies documentary and creative writing at Columbia College Chicago. Simone talks about going to their first screening at just two months old and shares stories from a childhood spent in the film scene of Austin, Texas. They speak about pivoting from debate to journalism, and again, from journalism to creative non-fiction. They also talk about being inspired by their favorite college course, Women in the French New Wave.

In part two, we speak with Alina Paul-Castanoñ about photojournalism, learning under the instruction of the legendary John H. White, and the struggles of starting college during the pandemic. Alina also talks about her photo documentary on one of Chicago’s only female-fronted punk bands, Scarlet Demore. 

In our final segment, Dasha Mattei, photography major, talks about dealing with difficult clients when photographing weddings, how modeling has influenced her aesthetic sense, and the best and worst love interests on Gilmore Girls.

Ep7: Everest, Algorithms, and Radio

In this episode, Koda Calma, Dylan Case, and Renni Kieschnick interview Mt. Everest enthusiast and advocate Dawson Rudolf. They discuss where Rudolf’s interest in the mountain came from, and the dangers people don’t necessarily understand about climbing Mt. Everest. They also share the negative impacts the commercialization of the hike has on the environment.

Next, DJ Tacco meets with social media manager and fellow Columbia College student Shanel Midorya. She shares her experiences in the film department and the pros and cons of the internet and mobile media. They also share tips on how to work with the algorithm and what posts get the best audience response. Check out her TikTok account @shanelnechelle_.

Last, Leilani Fernandez and Shani Rosen talk to Jazzer Fierce, Kiss FM’s newest on-air personality. She shares where her passion for radio comes from and how performance and creativity has influenced her journey.
